The winner of the CPFC DSA Karen Green Player of the Season Shield for 2023/24 is Crystal Palace's in-form striker Jean-Philippe Mateta who was presented with the award by DSA member Janet Dredge after getting more than 25% of the CPFC DSA members votes.
The award was presented to JP just before the last game of the season against Aston Villa and he celebrated in style by scoring a hat trick against them. It took his Premier League goal tally to 16 goals in 25 starts with the best goals to shots ratio of any of the Premier League's top 20 strikers.
He has also picked up the Club's Player of the Season Award and the Players' Player of the Season Award.
CPFC DSA Chair David May said "this award not only recognises a great goal scoring season for JP but also the affection felt towards the striker. He has become a fan's favourite with his corner flag kicking goal celebration which is often accompanied by the crowd singing his own Boom, Boom chant."
The Award was set up in memory of DSA committee member Karen Green who sadly passed away in 2022. She was an enthusiastic Crystal Palace fan as well as being prominent in pushing for improvements around the Selhurst Park stadium to help make it a more accessible venue.
